Its not that African's are not smart, its not that we can't think, its not that we don't know what we want, and neither is that we are helpless.

African problems will ultimately be solved by Africans. However, to start solving our problems, we need to know what our problems are; or at least agree on the most important ones. I will attempt to get this conversation started about the motherland.

Here are some of my thoughts...
1. Food
2. Basic amenities - water, clothing, shelter
3. Rule of law
4. Basic infrastructure: roads, power (light) etc
5. Political instability

I'm persuaded that if we can solve these 5 things we will have solved 70% of the problems African faces.

What are you thoughts? what are your top 10, 100, whatever?

Sundora am real impressed with the topic Mother Africa,to my thinking all the components you have hihglighted are quite important for the africas development.We real for sure need food and good shelter as this is an undispoutable bfacts that greaty number of africans living in a shiny shelter and food problem.Infrastructure are poor to accomodate development policies and strategies.To my thinking however Good Governance is a centre of all these.With good governnace we are assured the responsible people in our infrastrucutres,food, etc. stand for rule of law,good and proper education for africa and every sorts that account for our positive change.Africa lacks that,we definately dont have good governance it is just the romanticising of the same,and in that sense no committiment posited in our leaders to make development thing happen for the africas better,no accountability,partiritism has become a dead hero-The only exisiting giants are selfish ,selfcentredness and corruption.

I love your insights... so how do we get rid of the remaining ill's of our beloved Africa? Corruption seems so ingrained in the continent that I wonder if there is still hope at all?....

Hi mtegoni,i sincerely agree with you that good governance will bring about a positve change in africa, so do you or any body have any suggestions as to how we can we make good governance a reality in africa?

Nothing wrong with Africa but I think we wrong because our leaders are take a negative decisions in our important and hot affairs related to te contenent.How ever; may our new generations much understanding thats to let Mama Africa newest born revealed to the world benefiting.Just atime .. Nothing is wrong with Africa but the only biggest problem i have seen with African leaders is that they are all Marxist so they want to apply the doctrictine of Marx which do not work to our problems of poverty and other related problems.Another problem is that when most leaders are voted into pover they do not want to part with that power and this later makes them to be so conservative even if there is a need for change.

What is the predominant form of government in Africa?

as far as i'm concerned the only problem we face as Africans has to do with the way we think and the way we see each other.
if we as Africans see each other as siblings from the same womb, there's no way we can harm ourselves or victimize ourselves.
Thus what we really need is complete recrystallization of our thoughts.
this can be achieved by educating ourselves as a people.

I really believe that these are our problems but the whole problem hasn’t been solved because of the lack of patriots. Except some leaders, almost all governors that we faced did not care about the next generation. And only for thinking for them selves, they have been surprising the society. These become the main cause for political instability. And when ever there is no political instability the rule of low will be just a word which is not visible in practice. Political instability will lead as to the other problems, which are a block for our development.
Therefore if we need to solve the problem it starts from here which is: - BE A PATRIOT AND SMART.
If every body is a patriot Africa will be able to solve her political problem, and if every body is smart Africa will grow exponentially.
